Abstract: Objectives: to characterize the eating patterns of infants discharged from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Intermediate Unit in the first six months of life. Methods: study carried out in a risk maternity located in the city of Sergipe. Data were collected from hospital discharge summaries and from interviews with caregivers during outpatient visits. Results: the sample consisted of 85 infants. Exclusive breastfeeding prevailed 45(52.33%), followed by mixed breastfeeding 30(34.88%) and isolated infant formula 11(12.79%). At six months, 25(29.41%) of the children received exclusive breastfeeding, 23(26.83%) had started the introduction of food and 24 (28%) the incorporation of farinaceous foods in the dietary pattern. Conclusions: there was a predominance of infant and farinaceous formulas before the sixth month in children.; Objetivos: caracterizar los patrones alimentarios de los lactantes egresados de la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos Neonatales y Unidad Intermedia en los primeros seis meses de vida.

Abstract: Justification and Objectives: Opportunistic infections have been shown to be relevant in patients with the human immunodeficiency syndrome, as they potentiate health problems.
The aim of this study is to analyze the profile of opportunistic infections in patients with HIV/AIDS in specialized care service, in Aracaju city, SE. Methods: Documental, retrospective and cross-sectional research, from the medical records of adult patients of the Medical Specialty Center, in Aracaju. Results: Of the 1201 patients analyzed, 59.2% were men, age between 29 and 39 years, brown, exclusive fixed partners, primary school.
Approximately 63.3% received antiretroviral therapy and 19.3% reported opportunistic infections, with moniliasis present in 5.0% of cases. Episodes of diarrhea occurred in 30.1% of the patients and the most prevalent protozoan parasitological examination of feces were Endolimax nana, Entamoeba coli and Giardia lamblia. Patients with opportunistic infections who underwent antiretroviral treatment were more likely to have diarrhea (OR = 4.981; p<0.001).Conclusion: consequently, as observed in other regions of Brazil, there is a reduction in the incidence of opportunistic occurrences with the use of HAART therapy. Opportunistic infections occurred in both genders, predominantly via sexual activity, continue to happen, suggesting the need for improvements in the assessment and approach to patients regarding available therapies.

Expression pattern of Cdkn2b and its regulations in canine mammary tumors

Título: Expression pattern of Cdkn2b and its regulations in canine mammary tumors
Autor(es): FARO, Thamirys Aline Silva; PINHEIRO, Danilo do Rosário; CALCAGNO, Danielle Queiroz
Abstract: Background/Aim: In female dogs, mammary
cancer is the most frequent cancer type, accounting for 50%
of all tumors affecting these animals. Amongst the commonly
altered genes in cancer is the cell-cycle regulator cyclindependent kinase inhibitor 2B (Cdkn2b), whose expression
is negatively regulated by protein products of BMI1 protooncogene (Bmi1), MYC proto-oncogene (Myc) and T-box
gene transcription factor 2 (Tbx2) genes. Considering this,
the aim of this study was to evaluate the expression pattern
of the Cdkn2b gene and these regulators in canine mammary
tumors of dogs from Northern Brazil (Belém, Pará). Material
and Methods: Gene expression in samples from 33 animals
was assessed by real-time polymerase chain reaction. To
check the influence of methylation on gene expression,
bisulfite sequencing polymerase chain reaction was also
performed. Results: All studied genes, except Cdkn2b, were
found at increased expression levels in tumor tissue when
compared with control samples. No correlation between
expression and methylation data was observed. Conclusion:
Our results suggest these markers may have a diagnostic
value in the veterinary clinic.
